Estrogen receptor translocation and ornithine aminotransferase induction by estradiol in rat kidney.
نویسنده
چکیده
Injection of a hyperphysiological dose of 17P-estradiol to the rat elicits a translocation of the cytoplasmic estrogen receptor in the kidney. This is followed, a few hours later, by an increase in the rate of ornithine aminotransferase synthesis. This increase, in turn, causes the enzyme activity to rise also a few hours later. Growth of rat kidney tumor MK3 has delayed the induction of ornithine aminotransterase by 17B-estradiol in the host kidney. However, the enzyme is not inducible in several normal tissues where the activity is high and where concentrations of estrogen receptor greatly exceed that in rat kidney. These observations suggest certain possible mechanisms of the inductive process.

Regulation of ornithine aminotransferase mRNA levels in rat kidney by estrogen and thyroid hormone.
The regulation of the mitochondrial matrix enzyme, ornithine aminotransferase, by estrogen and triiodothyronine (T3) in rat kidney was examined using a cloned cDNA probe and in vitro translation of poly(A+) RNA. After a single, acute dose of either 17 beta-estradiol or T3, the rate of enzyme synthesis and the levels of translatable and hybridizable ornithine aminotransferase mRNA all increase i...
متن کاملTranscriptional control of ornithine aminotransferase synthesis in rat kidney by estrogen and thyroid hormone.
Ornithine aminotransferase, a mitochondrial matrix enzyme, is expressed constitutively in many mammalian tissues and is subject to complex hormonal and dietary regulation in rat liver and kidney. The kidney enzyme is induced by estrogen and thyroid hormone (3,3',5-triiodo-L-thyronine, T3). We demonstrated previously that the hormonal induction in kidney is the result of an increase in ornithine...
متن کاملRegulation of ornithine aminotransferase in rat kidney by estradiol and pyridoxine.
Increased synthesis of ornithine aminotransferase [EC 2.6.1.13] (OAT) in the kidney of pyridoxine-deficient rats has been reported previously (Ikeda, M. and Okada, M. (1985): J. Nutr. Sci. Vitaminol., 31, 553-561). In this report the effects of 3,3',5'-triiodothyronine (T3) and estradiol on OAT activity in the kidney of rats given pyridoxine-deficient and control diets were studied. T3 induced ...

Ornithine aminotransferase (L-ornithine: 2-oxoacid aminotransferase, OAT, EC 2.6.1.13) plays crucial physiological roles in amino acid metabolism because this enzyme is at the crossroad of several pathways including those of L-arginine, L-ornithine, L-glutamate, Lglutamine, and L-proline. Specifically, OAT catalyzes the transamination of L-ornithine in the presence of α-ketoglutarate to produce...
